National Ratings in Prime-Time: Week of Dec. 17, 2007:
CBS and NBC split leadership on this repeat riddled third week of December, with the Eye net first in households and total viewers, and NBC No.1 in the three surveyed demos -- adults 18-49, adults 25-54 (tied with CBS) and adults 18-34. NBC managed to build by minor proportions from one year earlier, while CBS, ABC and Fox were close to year-ago levels. Cellar-dweller the CW dropped by margins of 11 to 22 percent, meanwhile. In the battle of ABC's Duel versus NBC's Clash of the Choirs, the holiday themed Clash of the Choirs held an advantage each time.

What follows are the national rating averages for the week of Dec. 17, 2007 (with change versus the year-ago period in parentheses), followed by the top 20 rated programs of the week in total viewers and adults 18-49.

Notes of Interest

The Dead Zone and The 4400 Out at USA:
USA Network will make room for upcoming dramas In Plain Sight and To Love & Die by canceling two veteran sci-fi series -- The Dead Zone and The 4400. The Dead Zone debuted in 2002 and The 4400 two years later.

Another Return in Late Night:
Spike Feresten, host of Fox Saturday night sketch/variety Talkshow With Spike Feresten, has announced he will be returning on Jan. 12. Only three remaining late night talk/variety shows to-date -- CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and NBC's Saturday Night Live -- have yet to announce their official returns.

Strike Update:
The next potential striking groups, the Directors Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers -- are expected to begin negotiations on Monday, Jan. 7. The currently striking Writers Guild of America and the AMPTP have not, meanwhile, met since Dec. 7.

TV Trivia Time:
A Friendly Pair

Where did Rachel and Ross have their wedding dinner in Las Vegas?

a) Burger King
b) Hugo's Cellar
c) McDonalds
d) Pharaoh's Pheast
e) Pizza Hut

The answer to the yesterday's question…

What were the first names of the deceased parents on Party of Five?

a) Diane and Sam
b) Diana and Nick
c) Gretchen and William
d) Donna and Paul
e) Val and Gary

Is: b) Diana and Nick. Just wondering: Was I the only one who found it odd that the age range for the five Salinger siblings was 1 to 24 when the series began? Charlie was 24, followed by Bailey (16), Julia (15), Claudia (11) and Owen (1). An eight year age difference between Charlie and Bailey, just one year between Bailey and Julia, and 10 years between Claudia and Owen (not to mention 23 years between Charlie and Owen), Isn't that strange?

Current kudos goes to:
Sheila Berman, Gerry Bixenspan, Susan Brandes (2x), Maureen Goldman, Bob Ingersoll, Karen Kavanagh, Marc Miller, Michelle Stanton, Anna Marie Watkins, Myndi Weinraub
