----------

-Ratings Breakdown:

Despite facing the annual Fiesta Bowl on Fox, NBC led this first Wednesday of 2008 in the overnights with its combination of Deal or No Deal and the 18th season-premiere of Law & Order. Deal or No Deal opened the evening with a 7.5 rating/12 share (tied for first in the 8 p.m. hour), followed by the two-hour season kick-off of Law & Order at a dominant 9.5/14 from 9-11 p.m. One year earlier, Law & Order opened the season with an 8.2/14 in the overnights on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006. Comparatively, this was an increase of 16 percent. Congratulations, Dick Wolf…you may actually outlast Gunsmoke after all!

The Fiesta Bowl on Fox (West Virginia vs. Oklahoma) averaged an approximate 8.3/13 in the overnights from 8:30-11 p.m. (leading out of a 4.8/ 8 for the pre-game at 8 p.m.). One year earlier, The Fiesta Bowl (Boise vs. Oklahoma on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007) averaged an 8.9/15 from 9 p.m. - 12:45 a.m. Keep in mind that the results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

ABC's line-up of the season-premiere of Wife Swap (#3: 5.7/ 9), the season-premiere of Supernanny (#3: 5.8/ 9) and another episode of Supernanny (#2: 6.4/10) finished third overall for the evening. But keep in mind that these reality hours always manage to pick-up steam among adults 18-49 once the fast affiliate results are posted at PIFeedback. Next was CBS' combination of the second season-premiere of Power of 10 (#4: 4.6/ 7), a repeat of Criminal Minds (#4: 5.4/ 8) and a repeat of CSI: NY (#3: 4.8/ 8). In the battle of the game shows, NBC's Deal or No Deal outdelivered Power of 10 by a hefty 63 percent.

Capping off the evening was the CW's inane Crowned: The Mother of all Beauty Pageants (#5: 1.7/ 3) and Gossip Girl (#5: 2.0/ 3). Although a 2.0/ 3 in the overnights is nothing to boast about, growth of 18 percent out of Crowned is worth noting. And that keeps Gossip Girl off the listing of losers this week.
